Emmy Award-winning filmmaker and Harvard professor Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. has just released his new book, The Black Church: This Is Our Story, This Is Our Song. This book is a companion to a PBS two-part documentary series featuring interviews with Oprah, John Legend, Jennifer Hudson, and many others.
The book and series follow the 400-year journey of the Black Church in America, exploring how it became the center of Black culture in American life and politics. In addition to an exploration of the role of the Black Church in America and its origins, the account also contains personal anecdotes from a host of prominent politicians, entertainers, and Church leaders.
