Hit Film Precious, Produced by Lisa Cortes, Earns 6 Oscar Nominations

Precious, the powerful and provocative film executive produced by Lisa Cortes, has received recognition from the film industry’s most prestigious institution, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Precious was honored by the Academy with six Oscar nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director (Lee Daniels) and Best Adapted Screenplay.

The road to national acclaim did not happen overnight. Without Cortes’ tenacity and vision, the film may never have been made. Determined to bring the novel Push to the silver screen after reading it more than a decade ago, Cortes worked closely with Lee Daniels, as well as Sapphire, the author of Push on which the film was based, to bring the project to fruition.

Precious, which depicts the story of an abused, illiterate and lonely teen girl fighting to overcome tremendous personal adversity, has earned unanimous praise as one of the best films of the past year. The film has already garnered awards from the Hollywood Foreign Press, the Sundance Film Festival and the Screen Actors Guild, and is sure to be a favorite on Oscar night.
