Annabelle Gurwitch

Actress and humorist Annabelle Gurwitch, is best known to television audiences for her many years as the co-host of the cult favorite Dinner and a Movie on TBS. She is currently a contributing writer and commentator on “Day to Day” on NPR and a columnist for TheNation.com. She has also written for Los Angeles Times Magazine, Glamour, FreshYarn.com and blogs for the Huffington Post.

Gurwitch’s newest role is host of the reality show Wasted, launched by the network Planet Green. The show works with a different household every week as they try to make their homes “green” with the added incentive of earning money based on the success of the household’s transition.

Her first comedic book, Fired! Tales of the Canned, Canceled, Downsized and Dismissed was listed as # 1 on The New York Post Hot List and carries the message of turning bad experiences in the workplace into opportunities for growth using humor, perspective and a little imagination. The book has spawned contests all over the country and subsequently, Gurwitch herself is in high demand nationwide. The corresponding documentary, Fired! premiered on Showtime Network in 2007 and has been called “smart, funny and poignant” by New York Newsday.

Fired! has been featured on The Today Show, Fox and Friends, Bill Maher’s Amazon Talk Show, CNN, NPR, Jane, Instyle, People, Entertainment Weekly and even made Oprah’s Anticipation List. New York’s L Magazine called Gurwitch “hilarious, likable and intelligent.” The New York Times said, “Fired! proves that sometimes losing well is the best revenge.”

Gurwitch has hosted series on ABC, The Style Channel, Sci- Fi, Style, E and Game Show Network and regularly gives her opinions on VH1. She has appears in movies, including Shaggy Dog and Melvin Goes to Dinner with Jack Black. On television, she has twice been nominated for Ace Awards for Dinner and a Movie, and for anchoring two seasons of Not Necessarily the News on HBO. She has appeared on Boston Legal, Seinfeld, L.A. Doctors and over 40 other episodes, and movies-of-the-week.

As an advocate, Gurwitch is a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation and is on the advisory board of United Professionals, a non-profit, non-partisan, advocacy group for working people. She is currently at work on a new documentary film.
