Avery Friedman

With roughly 3,000,000 viewers each week on CNN, weekly legal correspondent Avery Friedman is America’s best known civil rights lawyer and law professor. The Wall Street Journal calls Friedman a “walking reference source” on civil rights law and he has been recognized in TIME, The New York Times, and USA Today as a nationally distinguished civil rights lawyer and law professor. Called a “true freedom fighter,” NAACP Board Chair and legendary civil rights champion Julian Bond calls Friedman “an artist in the courtroom.” He has litigated roughly 3,000 federal civil rights cases, recovering nearly $50,000,000 for discrimination victims’ cases coast-to-coast. He has faced off against the Ku Klux Klan and successfully tried one of the longest federal fair housing trials in American history.

Now Chief Counsel of The Fair Housing Council, a public interest firm, Friedman has also taught at nearly two dozen law schools including Stanford, Berkeley, Duke, University of Michigan, Wisconsin, Tulane, and the University of Texas. He regularly appears on national television shows including Good Morning America, The O’Reilly Factor, Hannity & Colmes, MSNBC, and Court TV.

Friedman has appeared at the invitation of both US Senate and House committees as an expert on civil and constitutional rights. He is the recipient of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference Legendary Champion of Civil Rights Award, the Ohio Humanitarian Award presented by the Governor and recipient of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Award for Human Rights.
