Bob Simon

As one of the most honored journalists in international reporting, Bob Simon has chronicled the most important events of the past 30 years for CBS News. The network's chief Middle East correspondent since 1987, he has been a regular contributor to 60 Minutes for over 15 years.

Simon has witnessed history in the making, his work appearing on almost every CBS News broadcast. Most recently, his revealing interview with the rescued Chilean miners shed new light on their underground ordeal, and his reporting in Tunisia brought viewers the source of the "Arab Spring" uprising that affected so many Middle Eastern countries in 2011.

Over the years Simon has traveled the globe covering events from the famine in Biafra and the devastating earthquake in Kobe, Japan, to the release of Nelson Mandela and birth of Solidarity in Poland. He has accumulated scores of prestigious awards along the way, including 23 Emmys, the latest five for "The King of Sushi," a 2008 investigation into the overfishing of blue fin tuna. In 2003, he was honored with a Lifetime Achievement Emmy.

In addition to accolades and awards, Simon has also survived horrors for the sake of his craft. During the opening days of the Gulf War in 1991, he was captured by Iraqi forces and spent 40 days in captivity. He chronicled this harrowing experience in his remarkable book, Forty Days. Only two months after his release, Simon returned to Iraq to film the hour-long documentary Bob Simon: Back to Baghdad.

A man of unflinching journalistic integrity, Bob Simon offers a seasoned perspective and a trustworthy voice on the breaking stories that are shaping and defining our global narrative.
