Carl Reiner
Carl Reiner is best known for his extensive work in the entertainment business, including acting, creating, producing, and directing a long list of television shows and movies. Reiner’s most recent acting engagement has been the character of “Saul” in the movies Ocean’s 11, Ocean’s 12, and Ocean’s 13, and he has made many recent television appearances on shows such as Crossing Jordan, The Bernie Mac Show, and Boston Legal.
Reiner’s has written eight books, including his latest novel, NNNNN, and his autobiographical account Enter Laughing that became the basis for a Broadway play and a feature film.
The recipient of several awards, including the Mark Twain in Humor Award, Reiner was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 1999 and he and Mel Brooks received a Best Spoken Word/Comedy Album Grammy Award for The Two Thousand Year Old Man in the Year 2000, The Album.
Reiner conceived The Dick Van Dyke Show in 1961 and it became one of the most famous and best-loved sitcoms in television history. Audiences have never forgotten his co-starring role on the show as the toupee-wearing producer “Alan Brady.” He also served as a writer and performer on the television series Your Show of Shows in the early 1950s.
In 1961, he wrote his first feature film, The Thrill of It All. Some of his other feature film credits as a director include Oh, God! starring George Burns; four films with Steve Martin: The Jerk, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid, The Man With Two Brains, All of Me, The One and Only, with Henry Winkler; Bert Rigby, You're a Fool, which he also wrote; Fatal Instinct, with Armand Assante and Kate Nelligan, and That Old Feeling, with Bette Midler and Dennis Farina.
