Christopher Cerf

Christopher Cerf is - among other things - an author, record and television producer, editor, composer/lyricist, humorist, educational consultant, computer software designer, president of his own company, Christopher Cerf Associates, Inc. and co-founder of the educational television production company Sirius Thinking, Ltd.

In 1999, with his co-founders at Sirius Thinking, Ltd. (former "Sesame Street" Head Writer, Norman Stiles; former Jim Henson Productions Creative Director, Michael Frith and former Apple CEO, John Scully), Cerf co-created the tremendously popular children's literacy education show "Between the Lions". "Lions" is co-produced by WGBH-TV in Boston, MA, and airs daily on PBS stations across the country.

In only its third year of production, Between the Lions has already received great praise and recognition, including three Daytime Emmy Awards and a Notable Children's Web Site Award from The American Library Association. The National Education Association endorsed Lions saying, "It's rare that the NEA recommends TV, and even rarer for us to wholeheartedly promote a program. But "Between the Lions" breaks the mold. It's quality television that supports quality teaching."

Cerf's success with the "Lions" program is just one shining accomplishment in a very successful life of writing and publishing. As the founding Editor-in-Chief of the Children's Television Workshop's Products Group, Cerf played a pivotal role in the ongoing funding of the "Sesame Street" program during the 1970's. As a songwriter his material has appeared on "Saturday Night Live", numerous Muppets productions and has been performed by such noted musicians as James Taylor, Paul Simon and Johnny Cash. He has earned two Grammy Awards. And while a student at Harvard, Cerf served as "Ibis" (Vice-President) of the Harvard Lampoon. He has written "The Official Politically Correct Dictionary" and is currently an Advisory Editor of "The Paris Review".
