Don't Drop the Ball: Importance of Teamwork
A world famous Harlem Globetrotter, Curley "Boo" Johnson scores big both on and off the court. Johnson gained the moniker "World's Greatest Dribbler" during his 18 seasons with the Globetrotters. In addition to being an engaging keynote speaker, he is a true entertainer, philanthropist, and humanitarian.
Sports have always been a part of Johnson's life. He was inducted into the Peoria High Hall of Fame, and later the Peoria Sports Hall of Fame. He became a star player at Loras College and was the first athlete to have his jersey retired. However, Johnson did not just dribble through college; he was also a student representative to the college board of trustees and participated in the student senate while earning his degree in Marketing.
Johnson was a key member of the Globetrotters for nearly 20 years. He has performed on all seven continents and in 81 countries, and was a member of the team that participated in the Globtrotters' induction ceremony into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
Johnson has had the privilege to meet some of the world's most influential figures during his time as a Globetrotter, including Pope John Paul II, Mother Theresa, and President Nelson Mandela. Inspired by the works and values of these, and many other, influential humanitarians, Johnson contributes his efforts to several causes including the Boys and Girls Club, YMCA, Family Rescue, Big Brother Big Sister, The United Way, Special Olympics, and the Make A Wish Foundation.
Since his retirement, Johnson has been igniting audiences through a series of keynote speaking engagements. He has his own basketball academy and trains some of the top names in the NBA. Recently, he portrayed a sports agent in the upcoming feature film Midrange and is featured in the motion picture Sweetwater. His life story is being captured by nationally recognized sports journalist Chet Coppock in an inspirational biography.
Johnson has appeared on ABC's Wide World of Sports, ESPN Classics, Larry King Live, Regis and Kathy Lee, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Montel Williams, and many others.
