Biography

D.L. Hughley, star of the hit comedy sitcom The Hughleys, has proven himself as one the hardest working men in show business. Over the past 10 years, he has grown his television and film resume while continuing to sell out concert halls and comedy clubs as a stand-up comedian.

In 1998 Hughley starred in The Hughleys, a sitcom which lasted four years. It was in 1999, however, that his career exploded. With comedians Bernie Mac, Steve Harvey and Cedric the Entertainer, Hughley embarked on a national tour called the “Original Kings of Comedy.” The tour sold out major concert halls in over 50 cities across the country and to grossed a staggering $37 million dollars. The tour was transformed into a movie when Spike Lee adapted the tour to a docu-film that retained the same name. The movie was an instant success and quickly became one of the highest selling DVDs in 2001.

Following the success of The Hughleys and The Original Kings of Comedy, Hughley starred in Aaron Sorkin’s drama series Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. He was also the host of BET’s hidden camera series S.O.B. Socially Offensive Behavior, HBO’s Def Comedy Jam, and Comedy Central’s Weekends at the DL.

Not satisfied with only an accomplished television career, Hughley transferred his acting skills to the silver screen. He has starred in the films Shackles, The Brothers, Doubting Thomas, and Cloud Nine opposite Burt Reynolds. His HBO comedy special Unapologetic was released on DVD and received rave reviews.

Hughley has since returned to television and now hosts CNN’s late night talk show D.L. Hughley Breaks the News. D.L. joined the CNN family this past October, marking the first time a comedian has hosted their own show on the news network. The show has enjoyed spectacular ratings since its 2008 launch.
