David J. Dent
David Dent is author of "In Search of Black America: Discovering the African American Dream", a critically acclaimed work that was named a Notable Book of 2000 by "The New York Times Book Review." "In Search of Black America" explores the lives of black Americans beyond the stereotypes that pervade media coverage of African Americans. The book reveals the stories of the people Dent discovered in his travels to small majority-black towns, big cities and suburbs where he collects more than 350 hours of taped interviews. He is also a Professor of Journalism at New York University and a writer whose work has appeared in "The New York Times Magazine", "The New York Times", "Playboy", "The Washington Post", "Newsday", "Essence", "Black Renaissance", "BETWeekend", "Black Enterprise", "The Christian Science Monitor" and "Vibe."
Dent is a graduate of Morehouse College and Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
