Diem Brown

Diem Brown has encountered adversity since early on in her life with constant moving as part of a military family, losing her mother after her first year of college, and most notably learning she had ovarian cancer three weeks before leaving the MTV reality show The Real World Fresh Meat Challenge. She needed treatment as soon as possible but delayed it until after the challenge to avoid bitterness toward the cancer.

Upon returning from the show, she went into intensive chemotherapy. Inspired by what she was going through, Brown created Live for the Challenge, an online caring community for anyone struggling with medical difficulties that works to support them emotionally and financially. After completing chemotherapy herself, she returned to the world of MTV reality television on the show The Duel in 2006.

Before joining The Real World, Brown worked as an entertainment reporter for the Associated Press. Currently, Brown has been named the online ThinkMTV “Health and Self” content reporter, for the program which focuses on education, sexual health, discrimination, and the environment, and seeks to inform and engage the MTV audience to take action. She is also a co-contributor with Sheryl Crow in Kris Car’s book Crazy, Sexy Cancer Tips.
