Restructuring Global Priorities in the Face Of Environmental Peril
20 years ago, Mikhail Gorbachev changed his nation, instituting perestroika and glasnost. This set events in motion to end the Cold War and change the dynamics of global politics practiced by the superpowers. Today, the degradation of our environment and the threat to our planet and existence is just as serious. Clearly, another paradigm shift involving all nations is needed to meet this threat that we all face together.
A catalyst in addressing this potential global devastation, President Gorbachev founded the environmental organization Green Cross International over 15 years ago. With the mission to help ensure a just, sustainable, and secure future for all, the organization aims to cultivate a new sense of global interdependence and shared responsibility in humanity’s relationship with nature.
In this thought-provoking keynote speech, President Gorbachev takes a close look at the macro-political and economic solutions being discussed globally and what we can and must do to once again achieve the "impossible." There is a role that we can all play unilaterally - as individuals, corporations, states and nations - to help improve our future, and President Gorbachev explains the steps necessary to bring this about.
