Miller and Lucinda Williams

Capturing something truly, artistically significant, poet Miller Williams and his daughter, Grammy-winner Lucinda Williams, collaborate on a performance bringing words and song together. A powerful look at the origin of artistic talent, the concert reveals the similarities between poet and musician with Williams and his daughter sharing a style that is both blunt and candid, deeply personal, yet universally understood.

With a microphone on each side of the stage, the poet and the songwriter alternately recite and perform. It may not be a typical father-daughter talk, but as the performance progresses, it takes on the shape of a conversation, with both word and song responding to each other. Interspersed throughout the performance are family stories and bits of humor passed across the stage in a warm exchange that includes the audience. The result is a glimpse into the relationship between father and daughter as well as between word and song.

Born in the North Arkansas hills in 1930, Miller Williams is the author, editor, or translator of thirty books, including fourteen volumes of poetry. He was the 1997 inaugural poet for the second presidential inauguration of Bill Clinton and his awards include the Amy Lowell Traveling Scholarship in Poetry from Harvard University.

Lucinda Williams is a three-time Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, honored as "One of the Top 100 Women in Rock" by VH1 and voted "America's Best Songwriter" by Time Magazine. Part country, folk, rock and blues, her evocative songs are acclaimed as brilliant, breakthrough musical narratives. The object of cultish adoration for years, she is now universally hailed as a major talent by critics, musicians, and the general public. Her most recent album, World Without Tears, was released in 2003 and debuted in the Top 20.
