Biography
Representative Anderson is a native of Moss Point, MS. He received his associate degree in criminal justice from Pearl River Community College and his bachelor's degree in homeland security from Tulane University. He currently serves as the Chief Executive Officer of nexiWorks, a digital marketing company which he founded in 2020.
Representative Anderson represents District 110 in the Mississippi Legislature covering Moss Point and Pascagoula. When Rep. Anderson won his seat in November of 2013, he became the youngest African American ever elected to a Legislature in United States History. Representative Anderson is also the youngest elected to the Mississippi Legislature.
Since his inauguration on his 22nd birthday, Representative Anderson has appeared on MSNBC. He has been featured in the NAACP magazine February issue. He was a guest on the Tom Joyner morning show with Roland Martin. Rep. Anderson appeared in Essence Magazine as a future Presidential Candidate. Representative Anderson has spoken at several high school and college commencements all across the country. Representative Anderson was recognized as a “Young Riser” at the 2015 BET Honors by BET which aired Nationally & Internationally.
He was first elected on November 5, 2013, and sworn in on December 6, 2013. After running unopposed in 2019, Representative Anderson is currently serving his third term as the District 110 State Representative, which will end in January 2024. Upon being re-elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives, his Democratic colleagues elected him to serve in the House Democratic leadership as the Chairman of Caucus Operations.
Representative Anderson currently serves on the Advisory Board for "Let America Vote" which is an organization dedicated to winning the public debate over voter suppression in the United States. He also serves as co-chairman for the Mississippi Future Caucus, a bipartisan caucus for lawmakers under 40. Most recently, he was honored during the opening session of the United Nations as one of the world's most influential people of African descent under 40.
During his time in the legislative sessions, Rep. Anderson has authored and co-authored legislation centered around increasing minimum wage, full funding for public education, wage equality, criminal justice reform, and childcare subsidies.
Representative Anderson ran for the Legislature to inspire his generation that they have the ability to do anything.
