"Rowdy" Roddy Piper
One of the biggest icons in the world of wrestling, “Rowdy” Roddy Piper has been a professional wrestler since the age of 15 when he became the youngest wrestler in the history the sport. A multi-talented athlete, he was also a winner of the Golden Gloves boxing championship and awarded a Black Belt from the world-renowned Judo Gene Label. With over 38 professional wrestling titles under his belt, he has won over 7,000 professional matches in his career.
Having joined the WWE in 1984, Piper hosted his own interview segment, Piper's Pit that has made him one of the WWE's most talked about performers. In 1985, he first crossed paths with Hulk Hogan – and the rest is history. They became the two biggest box office superstars in the WWE's history. It was WrestleMania 1, with the main event of Piper and Paul Orndorff teamed against Hogan and Mr. T that put the WWE on the map.
In 2007, Piper is still headlining. He is currently signed to World Wrestling Entertainment working on the RAW brand making special appearances.
Piper has starred in many movies including John Carpenter's much-acclaimed, They Live, which was a number one box office hit and in 2003, with the fight scene in They Live being awarded one of the top ten fight scenes in cinema history and featured on the DVD, Ultimate Fights in the Movies. In 2006, his life was the focus of the DVD documentary Born to Controversy: The Roddy Piper Story.
In 2003, he wrote with his best selling autobiography In the Pit with Piper, where he chronicled his hardscrabble upbringing and journey to the height of wrestling success. A cancer survivor, Piper has handled his recovery with his trademark mentality, fighting the disease to defeat it, ultimately defending his title against his most challenging foe.
With a career like no other, and a stunning level of accomplishments, Piper was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2005. His longtime nemesis, 16-time world champion, Ric Flair, introduced him saying, "Roddy Piper is the most talented man in the history of professional wrestling. Bar none!"
