Thom Filicia
Thom Filicia is the host and driving force behind Style Network's top-rated show Dress My Nest, the show that offers complete room makeovers inspired by a homeowner’s favorite outfit and personal style. Dress My Nest is currently in production for its fourth and most anticipated season.
Thom is also the author of Thom Filicia Style where he brings his easygoing philosophy and his focused, but relaxed, design process to life in this gorgeously illustrated, full color compendium of tips, tricks, thoughts, and how-to’s that shows readers how to transform their homes from drab to "fab." Thom Filicia Style deconstructs how Filicia works his magic and gives readers simple step-by-step instructions on how to make their own houses reflect their inner selves.
Before he came into the public eye on TV’s Emmy-award winning Queer Eye for the Straight Guy, Filicia was an emerging superstar of interior design with a prolific and respected New York City practice. In 1998, he founded Thom Filicia, Inc. (TFI), and his clients include high-profile celebrities, along with prestigious clientele in the fashion, entertainment, media, real estate and finance industries. This year he celebrates TFI's tenth year in business.
Filicia has completed interiors for Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony, a range of projects for W Hotels in Atlanta, Los Angeles, San Diego, and more throughout the country, and recently created an eco-friendly model apartment for Riverhouse, Manhattan’s first platinum certified "green" luxury condo.
The distinctive and innovative vision of TFI can best be described as time-honored classic simplicity and unexpected modern flair. The purity of simple strong lines, a muted palette with splashes of bold color and rich, startling textures and patterns are his signature. Although every interior is born of this well-honed approach, the results are as different as his clients. The end result is a space for living and working that's bold in its approach, while remaining classic, contemporary and stands the test of time.
A few of his memorable projects include designing the VIP Suite for the United States Pavilion at the World’s Fair in Aichi, Japan. In 2004, Thom designed the tents for Olympus' Fashion Week in NYC, and has designed tables at Elle Décor’s "Dining by Design" DIFFA Event. Other highlights include a complete housing renovation for an Oprah viewer, two Kips Bay Designer Show houses, the House & Garden Hampton’s Show house, and participation in the 2008 Design on a Dime benefit.
Over the years, Filicia and his craft have been awarded prestigious honors including everything from House Beautiful's Top 100 American Designers and one of House & Garden's Top 50 Tastemakers, to an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Art Direction for his work on Queer Eye. He was even interviewed by Barbara Walters for her special - The Top 10 Most Fascinating People of 2003.
He studied Interior Design at Syracuse University’s School of Art and Design, and has worked at the most venerable firms in NYC. He is also a contributor to the Queer Eye Book and has been featured in national television campaigns for Pier 1 Imports and American Express.
