Jeanne Ricks

Stress Sciences Expert, Nutritional Consultant & Clinical Hypnotist

Often referred to as “The People’s Wellness Expert” or a “Grassroots Sanjay Gupta,” Jeanne Ricks has taken her crusade from the streets to the auditorium with a mission to demystify all the myriad information about wellness. Her goal is to help people gain an understanding of how their body works and develop the tools to keep themselves healthy. As the Director of Holistic Wellness Programs for City College of New York, Ricks established practical programs to help people develop the inner resources to confront adversity and overcome life challenges. Stress-management is one area where Ricks has made a considerable impact. Her idea is provocative but her prescription is surprisingly straightforward: incremental, easy-to-understand exercises done in real-time rather than the “lump sum” approach of reacting and responding to your life as a series of small fires that must be immediately stamped out. And the results are anything but modest: her approach has generated a ripple effect that has helped countless people overcome a litany of stress-related afflictions including anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, weight gain, headaches, poor digestion, elevated blood pressure, chest pain, high cholesterol and insomnia.

How did it all begin? “I was sick and tired of being sick and tired,” Ricks says. The beginning of her foray into health and wellness came, like so many others, after a prolonged bout of illness. After 5 surgeries, the realization that there were alternatives to the costly fistful of medications was an epiphany. This experience sparked a quest for wellness which led her to earn certificates in Health Counseling through Columbia University’s Teacher’s College in New York and as a Holistic Health Practitioner through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. She also earned certification as a Clinical Hypnotist through the National Guild of Hypnotists. In addition, she has completed training in Herbalism, including Traditional Chinese, Ayurvedic and Native American traditions. She's a current member of the Northeast Herbal Association.

For over a decade, Ricks has helped numerous people surmount challenges to optimal health through her Centered Eating for Restoration™ Program. Her outreach not only empowers the average person, but also reaches those battling obesity, diabetes, alcoholism, drug addiction, domestic violence, mental illness and the isolation that is often experienced by the elderly.

Jeanne Ricks’ new book, The Biology of Beating Stress, and her workbook Be More Stress-Less, recently became available in bookstores everywhere. Her lucid insights, signature warmth, and disarming humor are quite literally on display: Her book was featured in Barnes and Nobles’ self-improvement section for two weeks. Read Less ^

Stress Re-Framing Workshop

Speech Topics

Stress: Turn Down the Volume!

We can’t always avoid stress but, we can learn some tools to reduce some of its negative effects on mental, emotional and physical health. This is a look into the true sources of stress, and its consequences. Learn ways to “stress-in” by harnessing — rather than fighting — stress in order to achieve optimal health and well-being.

Stress: The Whole Enchilada!

Stress causes cravings for sugar and fats, while at the same time disrupting healthy digestion. Get clear, and accessible information about modifications and supplement usage that will have a regulating, calming effect on digestion, help reduce “brain fog” and restore energy. You will also learn to reduce subliminal body stressors and understand which foods to eliminate to stabilize your moods and increase both energy and focus.

The Sugar Blues & Gluten Woes

Are you addicted? Are there times when you can have sugar? What are some surprising foods that contain gluten? Separate fact from fiction when it comes to label-reading. Learn to regain your energy while avoiding the “white stuff” and learn about the effects of chronic inflammation caused by sugar and gluten, as well as some remedies that can counter it.

Heart Worries vs. Heart Wise

There's more to heart health than just low-fat and low-cholesterol diets. Learning to integrate simple lifestyle changes will be the most vital and empowering tools you have to prevent heart disease or decrease the progression of existing heart or vascular disease. This discussion will include ‘Numbers You Should Know ~ Talking with Your Doctor’ (ex. NMR Lipoprofile, Vitamin D3, C-Reactive Protein), and also the truth about cholesterol.

Waist Not, Want Not

Bring your weight under control without going hungry and demystify those cravings. Carbohydrates and fats are essential tools for health and weight-loss. Because you need muscle to burn-off the fat, you’ll easily learn how you can metabolize and transport lean, “clean” protein for enhanced muscle health and development. You’ll also learn why “Less is More!” with the easy and quick benefits of high intensity interval training, a simplistic new tool to raise metabolism in less than one hour weekly.
