It was recently announced that former New York City Mayor and APB exclusive speaker Bill de Blasio has joined The Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard Kennedy School in Cambridge, Mass., as a visiting fellow for the fall 2022 semester. De Blasio will visit Harvard several times throughout the semester for a variety of discussions, events and programming.   

Olga Custodio, America’s First Latina Fighter Pilot, STEM Advocate and APB Speaker, will receive the 2022 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) Award from the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) during the 35th Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards on Sept. 30.  The historic program, which was created by the White House to commemorate the establishment of Hispanic Heritage Month in America, is among the highest honors by Latinos for Latinos and supported by 40 national Hispanic-serving institutions.  

One of APB’s most important speakers and a true friend to all of us has passed away. Mikhail Gorbachev, Nobel Laureate and Former President of the Soviet Union, died in Moscow at the age of 91. 

August 26 of each year marks the celebration of Women’s Equality Day. This special day commemorates the passage of the 19th Amendment, which gave women the right to vote nationally. Congress made this day official in 1971 as a national day celebrating  the importance of the women’s suffrage movement and the work to secure and expand equal rights today. Mike Hayes, former Commanding Officer of SEAL Team TWO, Author of Never Enough and APB Speaker, was recently featured in an article in Fast Company on decision-making. Hayes, along with Ryan Angold, former Navy SEAL and CEO of ADS, Inc., shared three steps Navy SEALS use to make the right choices. The pair said they use the same framework for any decision, from the mundane to a life-or-death choice. It includes collecting information, deciding a timeline for the decision, and reassessing and course correction if necessary, the article says.  

The popularity of virtual events continues to grow across the world, according to a new report from Allied Market Research. The global Virtual Events Industry size was valued at $57,715.1 million in 2019 and is projected to reach $701,392.4 million by 2028—a compound projected annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.6% from 2021 to 2028, says the report. The entertainment segment was the highest contributor to the market in 2019 and is estimated to grow 11.2% during the forecast period. Webinars are projected to experience the highest CAGR of 7.1% in revenue during the forecast period.

Russian journalist and APB speaker Dmitry Muratov has made good on his promise to sell his 2021 Nobel Peace Prize medal to help Ukrainian child refugees. On World Refugee Day in June, he sold the medal at auction for $103.5 million. All proceeds will go to UNICEF's humanitarian response for Ukrainian ​children displaced by war.
