Biography
Dr. LaMar Hasbrouck is a distinguished health leader, author, and passionate advocate for population health, dedicated to inspiring the next generation of health professionals and STEM enthusiasts. With a mission to "Inform and Inspire to Improve Human Health," Dr. Hasbrouck’s work is deeply influenced by his personal journey growing up in a community grappling with significant health challenges.
As a rare health leader with extensive experience across all levels of the governmental public health enterprise—local, state, national, and international—Dr. Hasbrouck brings a wealth of knowledge and insight to the table. Since 2016, he has served as the Managing Director of DLM LLC, a boutique consulting firm focused on enhancing human health.
Dr. Hasbrouck has received numerous accolades throughout his remarkable career, including being named Illinois' "Top Doc" during his tenure as the head of the state's health department. His leadership roles include serving as a strategic consultant for the American Medical Association and as the Chief Operating Officer of the Cook County Department of Public Health, where he was instrumental in safeguarding the health of millions.
With over a decade of experience at the CDC as a "disease detective," Dr. Hasbrouck has played a crucial role in global health initiatives, including the World Health Organization’s polio eradication program and the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. His expertise in managing major health outbreaks, such as swine flu, monkeypox, and Ebola, positioned him as a national authority during the COVID-19 pandemic, where he shared his insights with major media outlets like CNN and USA Today.
A former walk-on college football player and captain who earned an athletic scholarship, Dr. Hasbrouck understands the unique challenges faced by student-athletes. He is passionate about sharing the lessons he learned through sports, inspiring young athletes to take advantage of academic resources and effectively plan for a productive future beyond their athletic careers.
Dr. Hasbrouck has made significant contributions to academia, teaching at various schools of medicine and public health. His exceptional service earned him numerous prestigious awards, including the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Drum Major Award from the Illinois Commission on Diversity and Human Relations in 2022, recognition as a Top Black in Healthcare by BlackDoctor.org and the Johns Hopkins Center for Health Disparities Solutions in 2016, the Paul Harris Fellow Award from Rotary International in 2014, and the Passing the Torch Award for Dedication to the Field of Public in 2013. He was also honored with the 2023 Public Service Award from the UCLA Alumni Association.
Dr. Hasbrouck holds a BA and MPH from UC Berkeley, graduated as a Dean’s Scholar from UCLA's David Geffen School of Medicine, and completed his internal medicine residency at New York-Presbyterian Hospital, Cornell Medical Center. He also earned an MBA from the University of Saint Mary and a certificate in executive leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, the nation’s leading professional society for healthcare leaders.
In addition to many scientific publications and articles, Dr. Hasbrouck has penned two influential books: G Street Lion: Stalking a Dream (2016) and COVID BYTES: Naked Musings of a Disease Detective (2022), further highlighting his commitment to sharing knowledge and inspiring others.
