Biography

Steve Young was born on October 11th, 1961 in Salt Lake City, Utah. After waiting eight seasons to become the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers, Young emerged as one of the most popular, marketable and successful quarterbacks in the history of the NFL. Known for his exciting scrambles and his surgical precision throwing a football, the crafty lefty singlehandedly redefined the quarterback position in the NFL.

Mr. Young's professional football career spanned more than fifteen years in the NFL, primarily with the San Francisco 49ers, where he received numerous accolades, including Most Valuable Player of Super Bowl XXIX, Sports Illustrated and Sporting News' Player of the Year from 1992-1994, and the NFL's Most Valuable Player for 1992 and 1994. In 2005, Mr. Young was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, the first left-handed quarterback to be so honored. Mr. Young is also the highest-rated quarterback in NFL history and has the distinction of being the only signal caller in league annals to win four consecutive NFL passing titles. Young retired as the highest-rated quarterback in NFL history.

Young has taken an active role in improving the communities that impacted him the most – San Francisco, Utah & Arizona. Along with his wife, Barb, he founded and chairs the Forever Young Foundation (FYF), which is actively involved in children's charities. In 2003, after years of inspired charity work, President Bush appointed Young as a member of the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, working to inspire Americans to volunteer and make a difference in their communities.

Young has been a corporate spokesperson for high-profile companies such as Nike, Visa, Sun Microsystems, Sprint, Powerbar, and ICON Health & Fitness, and he has recently been profiled in a variety of publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Worth Magazine, Sports Illustrated, People, Inside Sports, and GQ

Young is currently a Managing Director and Co-founder of HGGC. He is also a member of HGGC’s Policy and Investment Committee and Executive Committees. Prior to his tenure at HGGC, he was a co-founder and Managing Director of Sorenson Capital, a private equity fund which focused on middle market leveraged buyouts in the Western United States. Previously, he was a member in Northgate Capital, LLC, the general partner of Northgate Capital Partners, L.P., a fund of funds.

A versatile talent, Young is a licensed attorney, an acclaimed motivational speaker, has appeared on a variety of talk shows and has even dabbled in the acting world. He was the studio co-host of the Super Bowl XXXIV pre-game, half-time and post-game show on ABC. Steve has also written a children's book entitled Forever Young.

He founded and chairs the Forever Young Foundation, which is actively involved in children’s charities worldwide and is currently the broadcast host as well as the former international spokesperson for the Children’s Miracle Network, which has raised over one billion dollars worldwide to benefit children’s hospitals.

Steve Young is currently an analyst for ESPN's Monday Night Football coverage. He is a graduate of Brigham Young University where he earned a J.D. degree from the College of Law as well as a B.S. in finance and political science.
