Biography

Debbi Morgan is known to international audiences for her prolific career most recently starring in TYLER PERRY'S "Divorce In The Black" for Amazon Prime and TYLER PERRY'S "Beauty In Black" for Netflix. Additional recurring roles in the Starz series "POWER" and "GHOST" and on "OUR KIND OF PEOPLE "on FOX. She will next be seen recurring on BET's "SACRIFICE" Season 2. She also has had noteworthy appearances on Fox’s "Fantasy Island", Netflix’s "The Defenders" & "SEXTUPLETS" and BET’s "THE QUAD," "TALES", and "BIGGER".

Debbi played the role of Angie Baxter-Hubbard on "All My Children" which brought Debbi into the living rooms of homes across the country and around the world. It was in 1989 after a second Emmy nomination that Debbi won the daytime Emmy Award for best supporting actress, it was a historic win at the time.

Debbi won rave reviews for her work in "Eve’s Bayou" playing opposite Samuel L. Jackson and Lynn Whitfield. For her performance Debbi was awarded with the Independent Spirit Award, The Chicago Film Critics Award, and even ended up on Roger Ebert’s list for best actress of the year. Debbi went on to play opposite Denzel Washington in the biopic "The Hurricane", directed by Norman Jewison, "Love & Basketball" with Sanaa Lathan, Omar Epps, Alfre Woodard, and Dennis Haysbert, "Coach Carter" opposite Samuel L. Jackson, and starred alongside Blair Underwood and Michael Beach in the independent film thriller, "Asunder." On television she had recurring roles as an evil witch and formidable foe on "Charmed", and as a pot-smoking jailbird on "Soul Food" for which she won an NAACP award. She also landed her first series regular role on Lifetime’s "For The People" opposite Lea Thompson. In 2015 she starred in The "Royal Family Vacation" & "The Royal Family Christmas" for TV One alongside Vivica Fox and Richard Lawson. She also starred in and won rave reviews for the critically acclaimed "Unbreak my Heart" about the life of songstress Toni Braxton and "The Keyshia Cole Story" '' as well as Kelly Rowland's screen mother in the "Merry Liddle Christmas "tv movies all on the Lifetime Channel.

Debbi Morgan, a fierce advocate for survivors of domestic violence wrote her autobiography, published by Simon & Schuster, The Monkey on My Back. In it Debbi discusses how growing up with generational domestic violence had a lasting impact on her life's journey.  She then wrote and has been performing a one-woman show based on her autobiography which she continues to tour around the country.
