Biography

Dr. Sara Safari knows the value of high performing teams. Whether successfully climbing Mt. Everest, or in business, her goal is to exceed expectations. Her historic Everest climb is featured in the Netflix documentary, “Aftershock”. Her journey, and many accomplishments have made her an in-demand presenter at corporations and associations.

Dr. Sara Safari is an author, speaker, mountain climber, college professor, Electrical Engineer and advocate for women empowerment. She is the founder and president of a nonprofit called Climb Your Everest that focuses on empowering marginalized young women through educational programs.

She has received the award for The Global Citizen from United Nations Association in 2015. She is a board member and director of development in Empower Nepali Girls foundation. She also has received the award for Outstanding Practice with Broad Impact in the area of women and leadership from International Leadership Association in 2017. Sara is the first Iranian in history to climb the Seven Summits, the seven highest peaks in each continent.

Leadership Lessons I've Learned on Everest

As an electrical engineer who had never climbed mountains, Dr. Sara Safari had to quickly learn how to step outside her comfort zone and train to climb the highest mountain in the world. Through climbing mountains and surviving a 7.8-magnitude earthquake at 20,000 feet on Everest, she gained valuable lessons in leadership, resilience, adaptability, and perseverance. In this talk, Safari shares how those experiences and lessons helped shape her into a stronger leader, speaker, citizen, wife, and daughter.

Break the Glass Ceiling

Growing up in Iran, Dr. Sara Safari experienced firsthand the oppressive and restrictive environment that enables gender discrimination. These experiences inspired her to climb Mount Everest to raise funds and awareness for girls who are victims of human trafficking or forced into marriage at an early age. Coming from a patriarchal culture, Safari faced discrimination and limiting beliefs, including being told that “women shouldn’t climb mountains.” In this talk, she shares powerful personal stories of breaking the glass ceiling, overcoming cultural barriers, and climbing some of the highest mountains in the world.
