Biography

As the highest-ranking Brazilian-American to serve in the U.S. government, Jana Nelson offers an insider’s view on global leadership, diplomacy, and decision-making across the Americas. Jana Nelson was the principal advisor to two U.S. cabinet members and had a front row seat in designing and implementing U.S. Foreign Policy for the Western Hemisphere, from Canada down to Chile.

Born and raised in the Brazilian Amazon, Jana knows firsthand how decisions made in Washington affect people's lives, even in remote areas of the world. Her life journey shapes her unique global perspective and has made her a lifetime public servant. Her leadership helped launch the Multilateral Security Support Mission to Haiti, coordinate the first Women, Peace, and Security bill in 2012, combat fentanyl trafficking, and resettle former Guantanamo Bay detainees. For her extraordinary service, Jana received the highest civilian award from the U.S. Department of Defense.

In addition to her government service, Jana held government relations and geostrategic advisory roles in the private sector, and in the technology and consumer goods sectors.
