MLB’s First Latina PA Announcer
Marysol Castro has spent the last two decades challenging the TV news status quo as a journalist and host. In an unusual turn of events, Castro made history by becoming the first Public Address Announcer for the New York Mets. This new calling would also make her the first Latina Public Address Announcer in the entire MLB, for the New York Mets. In her spare time, Castro creates television shows. Her latest, Somos, is a profile show where Castro profiles Latinos of all walks of life. Read More >
When she is not calling games in Flushing Queens, or hosting Somos, Castro is also the host of The Weekly Good on OGTV, a weekly show featuring a round-up of good news.
From her humble beginnings in 2000 at News 12 The Bronx, to WPIX-TV in NYC, Castro honed her ability to think quickly and speak coherently in front of the nation’s most difficult viewers: New Yorkers. With serendipity and timing on her side, Castro would go on to anchor the weather at Good Morning America in 2003 for 7 years. In addition to greeting viewers each morning with the nation’s weather patterns, Castro honed her skills as an interviewer by profiling everyone from Tom Brady to Miley Cyrus to Colin Powell (though she rarely if ever asked them about weather).
In 2010, Castro anchored weather at CBS’s The Early Show. She spent 2 years at ESPN as a Host and Sideline Reporter for the Little League World Series, Invictus Games and Premier Boxing Champions. Castro hosted the talk show The Daily Glow for digital media company Little Things.
Castro attended the The Westtown School in Westtown, Pa, Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT and the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York, NY. Because she is outnumbered, Castro runs a zone defense in her home in Connecticut with her 2 young sons. Read Less ^
Growing Into Yourself
"Ms. Castro's distinguishing characteristic is the ability to not only read about the topic but understand a topic that was totally foreign to her at the beginning of the work relationship. She's led panels with subject matter experts to hosting a full eight hour event. She's been prompt about her preparation and delivery of the content. She's not only met but exceeded my expectations on both occasions. The feedback post event: she is entertaining, purposeful in her questioning, knowledgeable about the subject and lights up the room. She's a rock star!"
"I had the privilege of hearing your keynote remarks during the Oliver Scholar ceremony. You are amazing! My family and I were encouraged by your path to success. Ms. Castro, you are a groundbreaker! You have kicked open doors of opportunities and ensured that the voice of a Latina is amplified in a sport where Hispanics are seen mainly on the field. The fact that you remain grounded in who you are and proud of your roots is inspiring."
"Marysol Castro has been an important part of the Parent-Child Home Program annual gala since 2016, and we look forward to a long relationship with her. Marysol is a powerful communicator. She has that unique skill of being able to connect with the people in the room on an individual basis from the podium, and to share her story and thoughts in a way that is both personal and universal. She captivates the room with her good humor, quick wit, and deep understanding and knowledge of the issues she is discussing."
