The Maclean Brothers and their new book Three Brothers in a Boat about their record-breaking Pacific Ocean row

Three brothers. 9,753 miles. 139 days at sea. One extraordinary story of endurance, teamwork, and purpose.

In their new book, Three Brothers in a Boat: A True Story of Adventure and Purpose Rowing the Pacific, Ewan, Jamie, and Lachlan Maclean take readers inside the record-breaking journey that pushed their bodies, their relationships, and their belief in one another to the limit.

Published September 24 by Canongate, the book chronicles the brothers’ 2025 non-stop, unsupported row across the Pacific Ocean from Peru to Australia. Along the way, they faced towering waves, sleep deprivation, equipment failures, dwindling supplies, and the psychological strain of months at sea.

But the journey was never only about breaking a record.

The brothers undertook the crossing with a larger purpose: raising awareness and funds for clean-water initiatives through The Maclean Foundation. By the time they reached Australia, they had raised more than £1 million for communities in Madagascar.

Three Brothers in a Boat: Teamwork, Resilience, and Purpose on the Pacific

The Maclean Brothers first made international headlines in 2019 when they became the fastest trio to row across the Atlantic Ocean. Just a few years earlier, they had been complete novices.

Their Pacific expedition raised the stakes dramatically. Over 139 days, the brothers had to manage exhaustion, uncertainty, changing conditions, and the realities of living and working together in a 28-foot boat with no easy way out.

Three Brothers in a Boat explores what those months taught them about trust, discipline, vulnerability, and continuing to move forward when motivation alone is not enough. The book includes photographs from the crossing and excerpts from the ship’s log, giving readers an inside look at both the physical demands of the journey and the mindset required to keep going.

At the center of the story is the relationship between the three brothers. Their ability to work through setbacks, protect morale, and remain connected to a shared purpose became as important as physical strength or technical preparation.

Those lessons are also central to the Maclean Brothers’ work as speakers. Drawing from their experiences on the Atlantic and Pacific, they speak about teamwork, positive mindset, taking action in the face of uncertainty, and the power of connecting ambitious goals to something larger than yourself.

Their story offers a reminder that extraordinary outcomes rarely come from one dramatic moment. They are built through small decisions, shared responsibility, persistence, and a team willing to keep pulling in the same direction.

Three Brothers in a Boat is available in hardback, ebook, and audiobook.
