TEDTalk: EVERYDATA - Misinformation Hidden in Everyday Data
In this keynote speech John Johnson shows the audience the importance of understanding how to recognize the misinformation buried inside the “little data” that we consume all day, every day. By providing an engaging and easily understandable overview of basic statistical analysis techniques, coupled with real-world examples that show their relevance in our daily lives, John gives his audience the tools and the confidence to be smarter and more discerning in their approach to data.
John Johnson explores the different types of misleading news we see and read each day. Most of us are not trained as data experts or statisticians – but many of us are required to make data-based decisions on a daily basis. Sometimes these decisions are small, while other times they can be costly. John works with your audience to understand what conclusions can (and cannot) be drawn from the data you routinely encounter with, and what questions to ask so you make better, fact-based decisions.
John Johnson started his own expert testifying firm in DC to train young people to become expert witnesses on all types of issues ranging from consumer safety to plane crashes. John hopes to empower young people to testify as expert witnesses, something only reserved for more senior people in the past. He is taking on the establishment and has been able to quickly scale in 5 years and has built a successful economic consulting company in Washington employing over 80 employees, Edgeworth Economics.
