It's hard to believe we find ourselves kicking off another year. With deep sadness and great respect, we mourn the passing of Archbishop Desmond Tutu who has been a member of the APB family for decades. An iconic Nobel Laureate and human rights activist, Archbishop Tutu was known for tirelessly spreading peace, justice and democracy. A world leader and beacon of hope for all, he was once described by longtime friend Nelson Mandela as “Sometimes strident, often tender, never afraid and seldom without humor.” APB will forever feel grateful for having known and worked with such an incredible human being.

The Elders, an independent group of global leaders working together for peace, justice and human rights, recently expressed their deep disappointment that world leaders have not yet had the courage to head off the worst impacts of the climate crisis. The group published their feelings in a post on their website following the conclusion of the COP26 United Nations Climate Change Conference held in November in Glasgow, Scotland.   

APB speaker Phil Simon’s latest book has just been named one of the Top Business Books of 2021 by Dropcap. Reimagining Collaboration: Slack, Microsoft Teams, Zoom and the Post COVID World of Work was released in January.

It's hard to believe we are coming to the close of yet another year battling the COVID-19 pandemic. Is it possible to catch a cyber spy red-handed? If you are APB speaker Shawnee Delaney, the answer is yes. Delaney, a decorated Intelligence Officer, Licensed Private Investigator, Insider Threat Expert and Founder of Vaillance Group, was recently featured in an article on Spyscape, a website that includes articles, videos and exclusive insights from the experts in secrets. In the piece, she shares stories about her work, including flushing out a suspected Chinese spy and a worker at another company who leaked sensitive corporate information to the media.

What happens in a company or organization when the chain of communication and chain of command become one and the same? It’s a recipe for disaster, says New York Times bestselling author, science writer and APB exclusive speaker David Epstein. In the latest edition of his "Range Widely" newsletter, which is available live on Bulletin, Epstein writes about the importance of differentiating the chain of communication from the chain of command. When there is no separation of the two, information gets diluted or stops flowing. One reason for this phenomenon is because “managers are getting information only from people whose main concern is earning their approval, or at least not ruining their day,” he says. 

Ruzwana Bashir, Co-founder and CEO of Peek.com, was recently honored by two national business publications for her leadership and the company’s innovative efforts during the pandemic. Bashir was named to Inc. magazine’s 2021 Female Founders 100 list. In addition, Peek.com just won Newsweek’s Best Future of Travel Award.
